Healthy Eating Habits Begin in Childhood

Children’s minds and bodies develop fast and to do this they need to have a nutritious diet. This does not mean to say that they need to eat in a radically different way from adults. However they should be encouraged to eat in a healthy way so that they can develop mentally and physically. The 5 food groups should be taken into consideration; grains, vegetables and fruits, milk and dairy, protein foods and of course certain types of fats.

When you think of grains, like rice and bread, you should consider choosing whole grains like brown rice and brown bread as opposed to refined foods. These foods are high in fiber and will release a lot of energy. It is important for your child to get at least 4 servings of these grains per day. The largest amount should be consumed at breakfast. This is because your child will be able to get the energy they need to be fully active throughout the day. Plus the fiber will keep them full and discourage junk food snacking in between meals. It will also boost their metabolism and help them to digest their food and not store it as excess fat.

Vegetables and fruits are a very important part of your child’s diet. They provide essential vitamins and minerals needed for optimum mental and physical development. Many kids just do not like veggies as such, but do not let this deter you. You can try veggie dishes like broccoli cheese or zucchini bread. Celery boats are fun veggie snacks that can tempt even the most hardened vegetable hater. Tomatoes can be slipped into many dishes without being noticed.

Fruits are a good alternative and you can usually find a few that your child will like. Start fruits and veggies when the children are young and you will have better luck as they get older that there will be some that they like. Fruits can be used as a replacement to candies and sweet junk food.

Dairy products are an essential part of a child’s diet. They get calcium, protein and vitamins from these products. Milk, yogurt and cheese are examples of this food group. A way to mix fruits and yogurt is to make nutritious and delicious summer shakes by mixing your favorite fruits with yogurt, splendor and a little milk. You can create a low cal highly nutritious drink for your kids.

Protein is very important for growing and developing children. This can be obtained from meat, pulses, nuts, eggs and fish and dairy products. Protein should be served at each main meal. It is also a good source of iron which is very important for the proper development of your child and to release energy.

If you work on your child’s healthy eating habits from the very beginning you will find that they will grow into strong healthy adults and not suffer from weight problems. Remember healthy eating habits instilled into your children today will sow the seeds for a lifetime of healthy eating habits.

A Soda a Day Keeps Your Weight on the Rise

Never underestimate the power of junk food and in particular soda. Just one small 12 oz can of soda has as much as 42 grams of sugar and a 32oz soda from the fast food joint will give you a whopping 400 calories from the drink alone. Now this is just empty calories as it is common knowledge that soda has absolutely no nutrition.

This can give rise to a whole lot of weight gain. The reason for this is because when you drink calories your body does not really tell you that it is full, therefore you are not usually aware that you have taken in so many calories with just one drink. As well as giving you extra weight the extra sugar and overload of calories puts a strain on your digestive system and can put you at considerable risk for diabetes.

So what should we do? After all sodas area way of life for many of us! A good alternative is to take just one soda a day and make it a diet one. Not all diet sodas taste bad; in fact some of them are surprisingly good. Of course drinking more water is always a good idea. It will fill you up and satisfy your thirst better than any soda can do. Try it for a week and you will find that you will drop some pounds and also feel better.

In Search of Youth

Many people have the erroneous belief that once they reach the age of 40 they are starting on the downward spiral of life and as Groucho Marx would say “washed up.” Because of these fears they desperately start to search for ways to hold onto and regain their fading youth. Anyone who is over 40 has been there. You wake up one morning and look into the mirror and say to yourself “wow I am getting old!”

Panic starts to grip you and you wonder what to do? You feel that your life is slipping way from you and you are just standing there helplessly watching it happen.

It is at this point in time that you need to think what to do. The solution is not to panic but to find a way out. Now no matter what you do you cannot turn back the clock and look and feel like a 20 year old. It is just not possible but you can take steps to look and feel younger.

Your 3 best options for finding your lost youth are…

Take care of your health: This is a number one priority. Wear and tear will obviously take their toll and you can expect to have arthritis and joint problems. However you can keep things from getting out of hand by leading a healthy lifestyle. Eating right and taking daily exercise will help you to stay healthy. Passive exercise like walking and swimming can help you to do this but this sort of exercise needs to be done on a regular daily basis.

Have a positive attitude: this is another critical aspect of keeping young. A negative attitude will lead to dangerous mental states like depression and is the cause of many underlying health problems. This comes from within and it is important to work on this aspect of your life if you want to enjoy your life and keep in good health.

Keep your mind and body alert: do not just hide away. It is important to get out and about every day. Find small errands that will force you to go out of the house and mingle with other people on a daily basis. If you do not do this you will find that you can develop fears about going out and this can lead to mental problems that can be very detrimental to your mental and physical wellbeing.

Keep your mind alert by keeping it active. You can do this by reading, not just newspapers but any literature. Joining clubs and societies are often good, because you meet people with similar interests to you. Online games like chess can keep you mentally alert.

Obesity in children

Obesity in children has become a national crisis in the USA and is rapidly spreading throughout the Western world. With the abundance of fast food joints and the fact that our food is still relatively cheap, we have many opportunities to overindulge. Our kids follow our example and soon pick up the junk food and fast food habits.

Not only is it a question of food but of the change in lifestyle for our kids. Not so long ago kids could be seen playing outside, but now the chosen activity is computers and video games. This has given rise to an unnatural inactive lifestyle for our kids.

Kids need to take exercise and eat in a healthy way in order to stay healthy and happy. Eating junk food and fast food while playing video games and computer games is not the best thing a child can do. These factors have resulted in our children putting on weight and the growing problem of obesity in children.

So what can we do about this?

Firstly we should become aware of the problem and the causes.
Secondly we should support our children and change their eating habits
Thirdly organize fun ways to exercise that the whole family can get involved in
Fourthly give moral support to your child and do not nag them about their weight.

Do you find yourself spinning your wheels when it comes to losing weight? You just do not seem to be getting anywhere. Maybe it is because there are certain obstacles that are stopping you from losing that weight. Here are 5 barriers that stop many people from even beginning their weight loss program.

Lack of motivation: this is one of the greatest barriers for beginning your weight loss program. People just cannot give themselves that extra push to start taking action. You need to positively motivate yourself to lose that weight. do not procrastinate take action today!

Denial: many of us are in denial of things especially when it comes to admitting that we are overweight. In fact not just overweight but fat. Yes this is what you need to admit to yourself. Only when you can admit to the problem can you actually work on a solution to it.

Lack of knowledge: many of us do not know where to begin when it comes to losing weight. We go from one trendy diet to another only to find ourselves on an endless roller coaster of losing weight and putting it on. The real road to success when it comes to losing weight is to educate yourself. The 2 main areas to gain more knowledge in are nutrition and exercise. Once you understand how to eat in a healthy way and exercise safely and effectively you will overcome the barrier of ignorance.

Fear of failure: most people I know who want to lose weight are stonewalled by the fear of failure. Sure you are going to have cravings and will not always be able to resist temptation, but we are all human and this is to be expected. You can still resume your diet and not lose much ground. In fact without a few stumbles on the way it is harder to learn from your mistakes and be successful.

Negativity: Negative thoughts can stop anyone in their tracks and losing weight is no exception. You will need to train your mind to think in a positive way. Maybe you are not losing weight as quickly as you wanted? But think about it, surely 5 pounds is better than no pounds of weight lost? The Absolute Worst Way to Try to Lose Weight

When you try to lose weight there are a number of common mistakes that almost everyone makes. But the absolute worst way to try to lose weight is by dieting. Yes this may come as a shock to you but it is true, and I speak from experience. Diets are mere temporary stop gaps that will make you lose weight fast and then allow you to put all those pounds back on.

My best advice for losing weight is to quit trying all these diets and give your body a break. Yes forget about dieting it just stresses your body out and puts you on a roller coaster of losing and gaining weight. This is not only bad for you physically but mentally as well.

Why your diet will not work in the long run. A diet will help you to lose weight fast, but as soon as you stop you will put those pounds back. There are a number of reasons for this.
1. Your body gets out of balance when you drastically deprive it of certain foods. As soon as you stop your diet your body compels you to eat more of those same foods.
2. Plus because you have not trained yourself to eat these foods in smaller quantities you may very likely splurge and eat more than you should.
3. You may return to your old eating habits without a care in the world, thinking those pounds are gone for good, and those pounds will come back with a vengeance.

The best way I know to lose weight is to eat right. You can actually cut calories by eating a balanced nutritional diet and more importantly you can really keep that weight off.

The 5 Minute Guide To Losing Weight and Keeping it Off

A number of people trying to lose weight mistakenly think that once they have lost weight it will not come back. Sadly this is not exactly true. It is a common fact that people who diet often regain those pounds when they stop their diet. Statistics also show that extra pounds will be gained which results in a disappointing and depressing problem for dieters.

This sad state of affairs can often be attributed to the methods you have used to help you reduce weight. Losing weight fast by going on these crash diets is a common way to try to lose weight fast. The drawback of these diets is the fact that they cut out important foods from your diet. This results in your body getting confused and out of balance. Because of this you will start to eat an excess of these foods when you stop your diet. Inevitably those pounds will come back and you will face disappointment.

Two factors should be examined when you are looking for the best way to lose weight. These are nutrition and exercise. In order to lose weight and keep it off, you will need to pay attention to these 2 areas. Here are some hints.

Nutrition: Losing weight is all about eating right and not going on crash diets. Eating a proper healthy diet will help you lose weight. The question remains what exactly is “healthy eating?”

Basically it is a change in your diet that you will adopt on a permanent basis. It is not a temporary diet that you will go on for a few weeks. Here are 4 tips for better eating:

Eliminate or at the very least eat less junk food. Junk food can be defined as foods that are high in calories and low in nutrition. Examples would include foods with a lot of refined sugar like candy, soda, cakes, ice cream and sweet juices. Eliminating these foods from your diet will help you to reduce those pounds.

Eat more fiber: relace refined foods with whole grain ones. Examples of this are brown rice and wheat bread, fruits and vegetables. You will find that your digestive system works better and you will remain full. This in turn enables you to lose weight by eating less.

Carbohydrates, fats and oils should be reduced but never eliminated from your diet. In this way you can reduce your weight safely.

Small portions: it is wise to eat smaller amounts of food at one sitting. In fact 6 small meals are preferable to3 large ones. This will stimulate your metabolism to speed up and burn more fat. You will lose more weight this way. Keep an eye on your calories and be careful to take in less than you are using.

Increase your water intake: ideally you should consume at least 8 glasses of water per day. This has a dual purpose. It will fill you up and you will lose weight, plus water will help you to cleanse your system. Replacing sodas with water is also a good way to cut calories and lose more weight.

Eating a healthy diet is an ongoing way to lose weight initially and eventually you will find that those pounds will not return.

Taking exercise: there are a number of ways to burn off those pounds by exercise. Your best strategy is to find an exercise régime that is good for you and continue with it. You can do passive exercises like walking and jogging, but remember that these exercise need to be done on a daily basis. However if you are using a gym or home gym system then 20 minutes a day 3 days a week is sufficient.

When you eat healthy and do regular exercise, even after you lose weight you will find that you can keep those pounds off.
